FachPack 2018 exceeds all expectations of the PrintCity Alliance

The members of the PrintCity Alliance were thrilled with the overwhelming response from visitors at FachPack 2018. The “Packaging design, finishing and production” seminar also drew quite a crowd.

Sustainability and innovations

Sustainability is gaining significance in the industry, as indicated by numerous talks with customers and interested professionals. More of a marginal issue a few years ago, consumers today are displaying growing awareness of sustainability and making it a purchase criterion. Legislators are also contributing to firmly anchoring sustainability as a decision-factor along the entire value chain.

It was no surprise therefore that the products and services of Alliance members were in great demand. Our shared booth at the event gave professional visitors a compact overview of a wide range of information: from sustainable substrates to eco-friendly varnishes and inks.

Seminar: “Packaging design, finishing and production”

The seminar centered on the Nature presentation and gift box for cosmetics, produced specifically for FachPack. The four-part packaging boasts an elegant design and exceptional craftsmanship. It makes use of the bronzing method, which greatly enhances the effect pigments. Thanks to a combination of spot lacquer and hot foil embossing, the box further shows a variety optical effects when viewed from different angles. It was produced by Vrijdag in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Other topics at the seminar included the highly finished, food-grade Candy box and options for personalising and finishing shipping boxes.

Participating companies:

Epple Druckfarben (offset inks and coatings), IST Metz (UV curing systems), LEONHARD KURZ (hot stamping and cold foil applications, holograms), Metsä Board (folding cartonboard), WEILBURGER Graphics (varnishes, adhesives and water-based flexo inks).

Helmut Fröhlich, Packaging Product Manager, Epple Druckfarben

We observed that sustainable package printing and product safety are gaining importance; there was a great demand for information on these issues among professional visitors. We therefore showcased our entire range of low-migration, coordinated Epple products from our BoFood line for printing food packaging on the inside and out, and the corresponding effect varnishes. Our new PURe ink line, which requires no hazard labelling, also generated a lot of interest.
