Offset printed food packaging
Surveys from industry and consumer protection groups in Europe and the United States confirm that there is a demand from end consumers and manufacturers of branded goods for user-oriented, environmentally compatible and secure packaging. Issues relating to packaging are also being discussed by various legal organs at national, European and global level.
PrintCity members have established a project group to deal with this multi-faceted topic. It is investigating the individual steps during the manufacture of food packaging—pre-press, printing, varnishing, cutting, creasing, die-cutting and gluing. The objective is to achieve a better understanding by all those involved in the production chain.
Best practice guide for food packaging
The key parameters for an appropriate food packaging are low odour and a reduced potential of migration into the foodstuff. PrintCity partners cover the printing process as well as all consumables (substrate, printing ink, varnishes, glues etc.) and their possible interaction. It will be shown that a "safe" packaging can be produced under industrial conditions if proper working hygiene is applied and suitable consumables are selected. Furthermore, we present information to printers and brand owners on the current status of legislation in the countries of Europe and on any planned changes.
